While this setup is usually less convenient than single-sided where you can open the door from inside without using a key, it’s not without a massive benefit: enhanced security. This is especially true for front and side gates, which are shorter and prevents opening the lock by reaching over or through the gate.
However, this added security isn’t without its drawbacks. While protecting your premises, keeping younger family members indoors is usually desirable, the need to use a key (i.e. Fingerprint, Key Card or a mechanical Key) to leave the home or premises could be a significant liability in emergencies. So consider and think about how you are vacating the home during a fire and how to provide access to paramedics and other emergency services if you are unable to reach the door.
